Ms. Sujata Guin,VP Human Resources, heads the People Function for Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Ltd (The Park), Flurys Swiss Confectionery Pvt. Ltd. and Apeejay Institute of Hospitality.
She has played a very important role in shaping up the Indian hospitality industry, she is not only credited with creating hotel sales and marketing but also her culinary achievements are noteworthy;
When I joined IHM Mumbai, (Dadar Catering College) in 1994, that’s the time I used to see the Fantasie Fine Chocolates hoardings near the institute and that’s also when I heard about her.
A graduate from the Dadar Catering College Ms. Odette Mascarenhas joined the Taj as a management trainee. She grew with the organization spending 18 years with them and then branched out on her own as a Management Consultant.
I connected with Ms. Ranju Alex, a few days ago when one of my colleagues spoke about her being a very dynamic lady, a super achiever and someone who had contributed so much to the industry.
Learning is so much easier nowadays, with the internet and information at the snap of a finger, but inspiration really comes from few. She has been one inspirational teacher to generations of hospitality professionals….
I met Ms. Suchitra Naidu in 2011 when she we invited to address the then batch of The Park Management Trainees undergoing off the job training at the Apeejay Institute of Hospitality, the learming centre of The Park hotels…
I connected with this dynamic lady after I saw an article that she had written on women chefs. I asked her if she had heard of the Indian Women in Hospitality and she replied in the affirmative. In fact she added that she was already a member, it made my day.
She was one of the favourite (favouritest if rules of grammar would allow) professors at IHM Mumbai. She made us all fall in love with bakery; she was as sweet as the products she taught us to make.
You meet a very few people who are an authority on the work that they do. Their work is a reference for many others and they create benchmarks that others follow. One such person is Prof. Cathy Enz
This is one story that I began working on in May 2018, there wasn’t much information available except for the fact that I had heard first hand interactions of people; basically a lot of anecdotes. Now when I sat down to look for the story- I couldn’t find it on my computer, I checked my email to see if by any luck I had it there. I wasn’t that lucky which means I had to rework on the entire story.
She was my first boss and I will remain her eternal fan. There are bosses and there are awesome leaders and she has been a great leader. She mentored us and gave a direction to how we thought; that’s important for anyone who is embarking on his or her professional journey. It sets the pace for the things to follow.
Isn’t it wonderful to be one of the foremost, the first people to take up something unique. They become the agents of change or bring changes with them that pave paths for others to follow.
She runs a catering company and travels all over India to conduct food festivals in five star hotels. She has been in the business for over 22 years and brings with her a lot of hands on experience.
