A Night of Nostalgia: The Taj Reunion 2025 at the Iconic Taj Mahal Hotel

On March 15th, 2025, the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai came alive with laughter, memories and heartfelt connections as former colleagues and friends reunited for the much-anticipated the ‘Taj Reunion’. This year was particularly special for me, as I had the joy of sharing the evening with my parents by my side—a moment that elevated the significance of this gathering and inflected it with much deeper warmth. Arriving early at the venue, we savored the ambiance before the mingling began. This building is not merely an architectural marvel; it embodies our shared experiences and dreams. Each corner held echoes of our journeys as team members of this hotel brigade.

Reconnecting with the Past

Walking through the majestic corridors of the Taj, where my journey in hospitality first took flight, I felt a rush of nostalgia wash over me. Reconnecting with ex-colleagues and mentors—now lifelong friends—was a beautiful reminder of how far we have all come since those early days. “There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered,” I reflected as I exchanged stories and laughter with many of my super seniors, college seniors, juniors, and even my own ex-students.

Witnessing multiple generations of hospitality professionals under one roof was truly incredible. The vibrant energy of over 200 people who share a common connection created an atmosphere filled with warmth and camaraderie. Every interaction echoed the spirit of the Taj—welcoming, nurturing, and inspiring.

A Memorable Evening

Our reunion was meticulously organised, and I must extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team behind this event—Ms. Navaz Irani, Chef Satish Arora, Mr. Veer Vijay Singh, Mr. Farhat Jamal, Mr. Malvinder Narang, and many others, who worked tirelessly to make this happen. A special note of gratitude goes to Mr. Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of the Indian Hotels Company Ltd. (IHCL); whose leadership and gracious hospitality ensured the night was nothing short of magical for the attendees. As we stepped inside the hotel through the porch area, we were greeted by my college senior Nitin Nagrale, my parents were delighted to see a familiar personality, having met him earlier. It was wonderful to actually meet Nitin first as he took care of my parents through the evening making them feel truly special that’s how some people are – caring and a delight to be with.

The evening unfolded with cocktails at the poolside, as we walked to the venue with a beautifully curated light and sound show. That’s when met Mrs. Aileen Sequeira who was my college professor and hostel warden, meeting with parents actually felt like a PTM. Just then heard someone call out my name and I turned to find my own student Hansika Pathak, an assistant manager at the venue. It was wonderful to see her and she was as delighted as me. I was touched by her hospitality and warmth; feeling proud of the students I had the privilege of mentoring over the years. Also, got to catch up with many others – ex colleagues who have remained friends! It was truly wonderful meeting Suman Bakshi Ma’am and her husband Capt. Bakshi, dad was happy to find a Naval connection there and they had a lot to share.

After the poolside event the party moved to the Chrystal Room for dinner and some more catching up. As we walked through the central staircase, almost all our phones came out ready to click pictures on the famous steps that stand proud for over a century and more now. We were welcomed to the new venue with violin rendition and traditional welcome by the front office ladies embodying Tajness and the renowned Taj hospitality. The venue was all decked up for hosting its older people; the ones who managed the show and held fort during their time at the Majestic Taj Mahal Hotel. The band played soulful music, the buffet was a large spread and well curated. The Kitchen and Service teams were extremely professional and their service was from the heart. The attentive staff provided memorable experience to all present.

Then the organising team addressed the gathering, it was wonderful listening to Mr. Ritesh Sharma, General Manager of the Taj Palace and Tower as he welcomed all. A recorded message of Mr. Chhatwal was played on a large screen. The exquisite culinary delights prepared the team led by Chef Amit Chowdhury and Chef Raghu Deora, along with the very professional and caring service team, made every bite a celebration in itself. My parents were truly impressed. I was just observing how good they felt and I was also regretting not getting them to the Taj earlier when I was working there. Anyway better late than never! The bar was open and starters were being served. People also started having dinner and heading to the extremely well presented dessert buffet- my favorite place to be. The nostalgia was so high there was hardly any appetite for food or drinks. I was high on emotions and nostalgia. If I have an opportunity to be with the Taj again, I’d love to consider it – no doubt!

It was wonderful meeting Chef Satish Arora, Mr. Farhat Jamal, Ms. Shirin Batliwala and Chef Iranpore, Chef Daruwala, Mrs. Neela Rege, Mrs. Suman Bakshi, Mrs. Bina Mathur, Mr. Anoop Puri, Ms. Pervin Bhasin, Mr. Bhasin, Mr. Gopal and many other seniors.

Meeting Radhika and Nandita was so much fun that we went back in time, the night shift  we did together, how we used to find ways to deal even with tricky situations and difficult guests or managers. It was equally wonderful meeting juniors both at work and from college days. They were graceful and warm, had such kind words to say and I felt humbled with their words of appreciation. Whatever little I have achieved I owe it to my alma mater IHM Mumbai and the Taj being my learning ground – my first workplace.

I found true inspiration in my parents’ presence. Their pride was evident as I introduced them to my mentors and friends, reminding me of my motivations and aspirations. In fact Chef Arora had kind words as he said he felt so proud looking at the way I was taking care of my parents. It could be true as most others were ex team members and my parents were guests like other families. The beauty of the Taj culture is taking care of our guests from the heart. No one can beat the Taj hospitality!

The night was filled with genuine laughter and heartfelt conversations, crafting new memories while  cherishing those of the past. Although I couldn’t capture every moment in pictures, the bonds formed during this evening are forever etched in my heart. It was a reminder that sometimes we need to pause and appreciate those with whom we’ve walked our journeys.

Looking to the Future

As the evening drew to a close, the chatter and reunions faded into a sweet longing for what lied ahead. Many expressed their eagerness to join next year’s gathering, as we all look forward to carrying this beautiful tradition forward. “We missed all who couldn’t make it this year, and we hope they can join us next time,” looking forward to future memories yet to be made.

The essence of the Taj Reunion is not merely about reminiscing; it’s about celebrating connections, reflecting on our shared histories, and embracing the journey ahead. As we bid farewell, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude—not just for the memories made, but for the family moments shared with my parents, a reminder that home is where the heart is.

Here’s to more laughter, more memories, and good health for all. Until next time, may we continue to cherish the bonds that bring us together!
